A fascinating article appeared in the San Diego Union-Tribune recently about a local man who has refashioned the purse hook--an item once popular in the 1940's (according to the article, though the site itself says the 1950's).
It is designed to hold a woman's purse off the ground (it hooks over a table edge, so you can hold up to 35 pounds of shopping bags, your purse, your sunglasses, etc).

Thank you both for the information and the links. The thing I like about the ones I posted is they seem a lot more heavy duty. He fashions them for steel, and has years of experience making fish hooks (read the article, it's interesting).

ReplyDeleteNote to all: purse hooks are used to hold your purse off the floor when you're at a restaurant, etc. It's not an added embellishment, nor just something you use at home. It's perfect for expensive bags, to keep bags from getting dirty, or to keep bags visible. Check the website and you can get more information.

A friend of mine introduced me to purse hooks recently. I had never seen those before!!! And I love them. There are a lot of different designs and shapes. I got mine at Stylagio (http://wwww.stylagio.com) as I like the elegant look and compact size.
