Resurrection of a vintage purse accessory
A fascinating article appeared in the San Diego Union-Tribune recently about a local man who has refashioned the purse hook--an item once popular in the 1940's (according to the article, though the site itself says the 1950's).
It is designed to hold a woman's purse off the ground (it hooks over a table edge, so you can hold up to 35 pounds of shopping bags, your purse, your sunglasses, etc).

I love the purse hooks and I can't live without one because I hate putting my handbags on the floor, yikes! I bought mine from PurseSitter and they are absolutely fantastic! They have a really adorable range of patterns and if anyone wants to check out their purse hangers, the website is http://www.PurseSitter.com
I think the prettiest ones are from www.purse-pal.com . They have the highest quality ones by far AND they donate $5 from the sale of each one to good causes like breast & ovarian cancer research, environmental causes and animal rescue org's. This way you can take care of your purse and do a good deed at the same time!

Thank you both for the information and the links. The thing I like about the ones I posted is they seem a lot more heavy duty. He fashions them for steel, and has years of experience making fish hooks (read the article, it's interesting).

Note to all: purse hooks are used to hold your purse off the floor when you're at a restaurant, etc. It's not an added embellishment, nor just something you use at home. It's perfect for expensive bags, to keep bags from getting dirty, or to keep bags visible. Check the website and you can get more information.
Note to anonymous #3: it's Chihuahua.

:)
A friend of mine introduced me to purse hooks recently. I had never seen those before!!! And I love them. There are a lot of different designs and shapes. I got mine at Stylagio (http://wwww.stylagio.com) as I like the elegant look and compact size.
